After the release of WordPress version 5.8, Gutenberg has taken over the Widget area. So, if you have upgraded your WordPress website to the latest WordPress version, you won’t be able to add a new widget area.
However, you can use the plugin, Classic Widgets to disable the Gutenberg widget area and add new widget area.
